Perpetual Inventory LedgerInventory doesn’t wait for period end.

Every stock movement recalculates quantity, unit cost and stock value, and the cost of goods sold reaches accounting at the moment of sale. Stock information stays current with the daily flow of the business.

Period-end inventory versus perpetual inventory

With the periodic method, stock value and the cost of goods sold are only known after the period-end count. In the perpetual inventory ledger they are updated with every movement.

One movement, four outcomes

The Perpetual Inventory Ledger treats stock, cost and accounting as parts of the same movement, not as separate tasks.

  1. 01

    The movement is recorded

A stock movement such as a purchase, sale, return, transfer between warehouses or count difference is posted item by item.

  2. 02

    Values are recalculated

The item’s stock quantity, unit cost and stock value are updated with the movement.

  3. 03

    Accounting is updated

The movement’s journal entry is created; for sales, the cost of goods sold is posted at the moment of sale.

  4. 04

    Reports stay current

The inventory list, stock value and profitability can be tracked without waiting for period end.

Frequently asked questions

What is perpetual inventory?

Perpetual inventory is an inventory method in which stock movements are recorded as they happen, and stock quantity and value are updated with every movement. The cost of goods sold is determined at the moment of sale rather than at period end.

How is it different from periodic inventory?

With periodic inventory, stock value and the cost of goods sold are calculated after the period-end count. The Perpetual Inventory Ledger keeps them current with every movement, so stock value and gross profit can also be tracked during the period.

Do I still need to count stock?

Yes. A physical count is how you verify the ledger balance. With perpetual inventory, the count result is compared with the ledger balance and differences are visible immediately.

Which packages include it?

The Perpetual Inventory Ledger is a feature of the General Accounting Management module and is included in all packages, from Micro Business to Tailored.

Can I transfer my existing stock balances?

During the transition, opening stock quantities and values are transferred to the system. The scope and method of data migration are agreed together in the needs analysis.

Start using the Perpetual Inventory Ledger in your business

In the needs analysis we clarify together how your stock movements will flow into cost, profitability and accounting, and prepare the right package and annual quote.
