What is autonomous ERP and Autonomous Business Management (ABM)?

A guide explaining the concepts of autonomous ERP and Autonomous Business Management (ABM), how they differ from classic ERP and where human control fits in autonomous management.

What does autonomous ERP mean?

Autonomous ERP is an ERP approach in which data is entered once at its source, business processes are connected to each other on the same platform and repetitive work is carried out by the system through rules, automation and AI-supported capabilities.

Factorbooks calls this approach Autonomous Business Management (ABM). ABM keeps the scope of ERP and moves repetition-heavy processes such as accounting and tax to an autonomous management model.

The difference between classic ERP and Autonomous Business Management

In classic ERP, transactions are recorded in the system, but a significant share of steps such as accounting entries, period-end procedures and tax return preparation are carried out by users.

Within the Factorbooks product scope, this difference is clearly defined: in ERP packages, general accounting and tax management follow a "classic management" model, while in ABM packages they are offered under an "autonomous accounting" and "autonomous tax management" model. ABM also includes unlimited users, private cloud or on-premise installation, and modules such as System Management, Workflow Process Management, and Document and Contract Management.

How does autonomous accounting work?

Factorbooks' autonomous accounting capabilities automatically record the accounting entries arising from commercial and financial transactions in line with the Turkish uniform chart of accounts. The chart of accounts, trial balance, balance sheet, financial statements and tax returns can be viewed in real time in the application.

For example, when a sales invoice, bank transaction or POS collection is created in the relevant module, the accounting entry for that transaction is not entered separately by hand. This lets the accounting team focus on control and analysis instead of data entry.

Autonomous does not mean uncontrolled

Human control does not disappear in autonomous management; instead, it is defined where it comes in:

  • Transactions awaiting approval appear on the start screen of authorized users.
  • Payments such as advances, expenses and payroll do not proceed without approval.
  • In ABM packages, approval matrices define who approves which transaction.
  • Transactions can be traced through permissions and roles, user groups, cancellation records and log records.

Which businesses is it suitable for?

ABM packages are suitable for businesses with a growing number of users, those working with more than one branch or warehouse, those facing heavy repetition in accounting and tax processes, or those that want to keep their data on a private cloud or their own infrastructure. It is possible to start with ERP packages at a smaller scale and move to ABM within the same module catalog.
