10 things to consider when choosing an ERP
A checklist of topics businesses should evaluate when choosing ERP software, covering scope, scale, deployment model, e-Transformation and integration.
Why does choosing the right ERP matter?
ERP is the backbone that carries all of a business's records, from sales to accounting. A poorly chosen system either fails to meet your needs or creates cost through complexity you never use. The checklist below summarizes the questions to ask during the selection process.
Checklist
- 1. Process scope: Which processes will you move into the system today and within 2-3 years? Are you starting with sales and inventory, or will you also need production, projects and foreign trade?
- 2. Number of users: How many people will use the system, and how will that number grow? Check the user limits of the packages.
- 3. Company, branch and warehouse structure: Do you work with more than one company, branch or warehouse? Ask whether these are included in the package and whether they can be added on request.
- 4. Deployment model: Which of public cloud (SaaS), private cloud or on-premise installation fits your company policy?
- 5. Accounting and tax model: To what extent are accounting entries and tax returns created automatically, and how will you work with your financial advisor (certified public accountant)?
- 6. e-Transformation: Are applications such as e-Invoice (e-Fatura), e-Archive (e-Arşiv), e-Waybill (e-İrsaliye) and e-Ledger (e-Defter) built into the system, or do you need a separate portal?
- 7. Bank and payment processes: How are bank transactions, POS collections and credit cards brought into the system?
- 8. Integrations: How will the system integrate with e-commerce platforms, marketplaces and the other applications you use?
- 9. Control and permissions: How are roles, approval flows and transaction records (logs) managed?
- 10. Total cost and growth path: Is it clear what is included in the package, what is an add-on module and how moving to a higher tier works as you grow?
Demo and needs analysis
Before making a decision, the soundest approach is to see the system working with your own processes. In the live demo, focus on your priority processes; in the needs analysis, clarify your number of users, companies, warehouses and branches, your deployment preference and your integration needs.
Choosing a package in Factorbooks
In Factorbooks, the package comparison table transparently shows which modules and features each package includes and which can be added as add-on modules. The package finder recommends a starting package based on your number of users, deployment preference and priority modules.
